چکیده

Arnebia hispidissima roots have been used traditionally for the treatment of ulcers, boils, cuts, heart ailments and headache, fever, tongue and throat troubles. The purpose of this study was to characterize the most potent phytochemicals present in the ethyl acetate extract having anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activity using carrageenan and CFA model. The observed results revealed that shikonin isovalerate showed most potent anti-inflammatory effects (60.5%) at the dose of 5.0 mg/kg at 6 h after carrageenan injection. Moreover, the maximum inhibition rate was observed of isovaleryl shikonin (61.2%) at the dose of 10 mg/kg at 8 day after CFA injection. The strong antibacterial activity was showed by shikonin isovalerate at 20 g/ml dose against E. cloacae and ,-dimethylacryl shikonin demonstrated maximum antifungal activity against C. albicans at the dose of > 65 g/ml.

Two polycyclic geranylhydroquinone-derived metabolites from roots of Arnebia hispidissima (Lehm.) DC.

A phytochemical investigation of the least polar organic extracts of Arnebia hispidissima (Lehm.) DC. roots has led to the isolation of two unique polycyclic geranylhydroquinone-derived metabolites, arnebacene (1) and arnebidin (2), along with some known phenolic metabolites viz., arnebin-7 (3) and vanillic acid (4). The chemical identification of the new isolated compounds, including their rel...

Shikonin analogue (SA) 93/637 induces apoptosis by activation of caspase-3 in U937 cells.

Beta,beta-dimethyl acryl shikonin is an extract from the root of plant Arnebia nobilis which has been shown to possess anti-cancer activity. However, its toxicity limited further development of shikonin as a therapeutic agent. Subsequently, several analogues of beta,beta-dimethyl acryl shikonin were synthesized. One of these analogues, shikonin 93/637 was found to be significantly less toxic co...

Anti-inflammatory Effect of Shikonin on Cultured Astrocytes Derived from Rat Brain

Introduction: Astrocytes have an important role in many neurodegenerative diseases. Active astrocytes release inflammatory factors such as NO and ILs. Shikonin, a naphthoquinone pigment of Lithospermum erythrorhizon roots has anti-inflammatory and antitumoral effects. The present study aims to investigate the anti-inflammatory and toxic effects of Shikonin on cultured astrocytes. Methods...

Synthesis and Biological Activity of Certain Mannich Bases Derivatives from 1, 2, 4-Triazoles

Substituted 1, 2, 4- Triazoles have shown multiple biological activities such as anti-inflammatory, anti fungal, etc. 5-mercapto triazoles were prepared from the potassium dithiocarbazinates. These triazoles were used for preparation of different derivatives by two different schemes. In the first scheme the Mannich bases were prepared from 5- marcapto-s triazole Quinazolines. The 5-Marcato-s-Tr...
